TRAGEDY OF SPALDING WOMAN’S SECRET VISIT TO INGOLDMELLS
POIGNANT LAST LETTER TO HUSBAND
“Forgive me, darling. My nerves are all gone and I am finished. Skegness and the water seem to draw me; how I came here I don’t know. I thank you for all your goodness, and I pray God to take every care of you. With all my love—Bella.”
This poignant letter was read at a Skegness inquest on Easter Monday, when the tragic story of how an invalid Spalding lady, who apparently left home secretly last Saturday, was taken from the sea near Ingoldmells Point on the same night, revived by artificial respiration and taken to the Skegness Cottage Hospital, only to pass away a few hours later from the shock of her immersion, was related to Mr. W. S. Rainey. Deputy-Coroner for the Spilsby District.
EX-BOY SCOUT AND SCHOOLBOY COMMENDED.
A twelve-year-old Leicester schoolboy, who found the body only a short time after his arrival at Ingoldmells on holiday, and an Ingoldmells youth, who put to advantage his Boy Scout training by continuing with artificial respiration until the arrival of the police, were warmly commended by the Coroner for their services and presence of mind.
