Skegness Amusement Rides Bound For South Africa
Source: Skegness Standard 8th July 1936
Few residents, probably, are aware that Skegness has a new industry, some of the fruits of which are seen stacked on the motor-lorries shown in our photograph.
The industry in question is the assembling of pleasure device cars, which is being carried out by members of Mr. W. E. Butlin’s staff at the Central Amusement Park.
Last week twenty-five of these cars were loaded on motor-lorries at Skegness, as shown in the picture, for transport to the East India Docks, London. From thence they were shipped to Johannesburg for the great new exhibition in South Africa.
It is interesting to note that there are more cars of the Butlin type now in use than of any other type running in the country.
The road transport of the South African contingent was carried out by Messrs. Swifts Haulage, Skegness.
