Pony and Trap Accident
Source: Skegness Herald 1903
Whilst Dr Bernard was travelling down Lumley Road, his horse took fright at the covering of a wheelbarrow.
The animal dashed onto the pavement near the public convenience and one of the wheels of the trap ran into the outer side of the tree, thus fixing the tree between the trap and the wheel, causing the trap to come to a sudden stop.
This threw the groom onto the pavement, rendering him for a short time unconscious.
Fortunately the doctor escaped injury.
When the trap collided with the tree, the shafts broke and the horse, finding itself free, rushed down the road in a wild state, and on running onto the pavement, collided with a lamp post opposite Mr Morley’s chemist, receiving severe injuries to its head.
This brought the animal to a standstill and it was at once taken charge of and taken to the stable.
