New Lumley Road Shopping Centre

EXTENSIVE IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

ENTRUSTED TO SKEGNESS ARCHITECTS

£30,000 PROJECT

The scheme for making an elaborate shopping centre of Lumley Terrace, from the Marine Hotel to the Baptist Church is estimated to cost £30,000.

Some twenty modern shops are to be erected, while a traffic island of flower beds will be placed down the centre of Lumley Road. It is proposed to build eight new shops, one storey high in front of the Marine Hotel. The fronts will be in bronze. Improvements to the hotel will also be made. There will be two entrances, one in Lumley Road and the other in Drummond. Road, while the interior is to be modernised..

The grill room will be extended, bedrooms reconstructed and redecorated, while new kitchen equipment is to be installed. These improvements will be completed by Easter.

The architects for the scheme are Messrs. John Wills and Co., of Skegness, while the contractors for the Marine Hotel are Messrs. Bernard Pumphrey, Ltd., of Gainsborough. The shopfitting is being carried out_ by Messrs. A. Hawkes and Company, of Leicester.

Mr. H. A. Hawkes told a press representative that the whole scheme was expected to be completed by Whitsuntide.
