New Butlins Zoo Opens in Skegness

Nine Lions at the New Amusement Park.
EXTENSIVE ZOO SECURED BY Mr. BUTLIN.
Greatly enlarged and equipped with many new attractions, Mr. William Butlin’s New Amusement Park will open for the season on Whit Saturday morning. And principal attraction will be the zoo.
The zoo at the New Park contains a wide variety of animals, but the most striking feature are the lions. Herr Faerber, the charge trainer, has charge of no fewer than nine of these monarchs of the jungle, and it may be stated that Mr. Butlin obtained the pick of the very fine lions in Chapman’s zoo for exhibition at Skegness during the Whitsun holidays and the succeeding period.

Herr Faerber’s demonstrations with this fine group of lions will constitute one of the outstanding attractions of the New Amusement Park.
And after the lions come the bears. It is unusual to find more than one polar bear exhibited at any travelling show, but Mr. Butlin, who evidently believes in plenty for money, has secured for exhibition no fewer than three of these white bears from the Arctic regions.

All told, there will be nearly a dozen members of the bear family on view, the others including four brown bears, one black bear and two Himalayan bears. Tigers, lionesses, a hyena, two llamas, a leopard and a zebra will also be on view. And this is in addition to the monkey house, so popular last year, which will be continued this year with additional inmates, as also will the aviary.

CHIEF LUALE’S VILLAGE
Visitors to the park will be attracted by the African village, which has been reconstructed with picturesque reality. Over it Chief Luale holds sway, and he and his dusky followers entertain with grotesque native dances.
The giant Dodgem track, which rivals in size any in the country, is the principal ‘Bride’ in the New Park, and others which are likely greatly to appeal to the public are the Caterpillar, the Hey-Day and the basin-slide. The Globe of Death is another New Park attraction which must be seen to be appreciated.

At the Jungle Amusement Park, on the west side of the North Parade, the Death Riders will be one of the main attractions. Their popularity was well established at Easter, and there is no doubt that large crowds will gather to see Slim Stamford and his daring band of motor cyclist trick riders do their stunts at full speed on the perpendicular wall. Interest is added by the fact that one of the riders is a girl, none other than Miss Zetta Hills, the well-known swimmer, who set up a record by being the first woman to cross the English Channel on a water cycle. Miss Hills is a versatile show-woman, and had the distinction of training the sea-lions and seals for Bostock’s menagerie.

The Big Thriller at the Jungle Park is supported by the Custer Cars and a new game called “Football-Biff.,’ The mystic caves, we are informed, have been made more thrilling than ever, and many surprises await the adventurers who venture into their dusky passages.
