The death of Mrs. Susan Blades, aged 71 years, brings back old memories.
About 60 years ago the members of the Circuit embracing the countryside from Hogsthorpe to Wainfleet were anxious to solemnise marriages in their edifices. In 1892 the Skegness Primitive Church, which at that time was situate on the other side of the Roman Bank, was granted a Lord Chamberlain’s licence to perform the marriage ceremony.
Mr. Frank Blades and his bride, who lived at Chapel St. Leonards, came over to Skegness for the first ceremony to be performed in a Primitive Methodist Church in their circuit, they being the principals in that event.
After spending their honeymoon at Chapel St.Leonards, Mr and Mrs. Blades came to reside at Skegness 48 years ago, and have lived in the same house, “The Willows,” 31 Wainfleet Road, for 47 years.
The deceased has been in delicate health for many years, but as each summer came along she became more active. About a month ago she contracted influenza, partially recovered, but a fortnight ago had another attack, and she passed away suddenly yesterday (Tuesday) morning.
The funeral service will be held at St. Clement’s Church on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock (January 1942).
