Alvin Stardust Breaks Embassy Record

THE boy who could rightly be called Skegness’s “ beat king,” 20-year-old Shane Fenton – he holds the Embassy attendance record – rocked 700 teenagers on his return visit on Saturday, and won his way into the hearts of two of them.

They were Skegness girls Sheila Smith and Susan Crane. Any other girl in the place would have given her ” dancin’ shoes ” to swap places with Sue and Sheila on Saturday night, for they got closer to Shane than anyone!

An advance ticket draw had been arranged, the prize for the winner being an autographed copy of Shane’s new disc ” A Fool’s Paradise.” But Sue and Sheila had bought their tickets together, and someone forgot to tear them apart. So instead of one lucky girl, there were two!

The Foreshore Department were, of course. unprepared for such a turn-up. So the girls had to share the record —and their meeting with Shane Fenton!

Mr. Willan Bosworth, Director of Foreshore Entertainments and Publicity, was again delighted with the impact made by the former Nottingham Cathedral choir- boy. After the show he said: ” It’s obvious we can’t go wrong with Fenton. I shall try to bring him back later this summer.”

Our picture shows how right Mr. Bosworth was—just look at those faces! (Photo: Norman Beckett.)

Of course, Shane Fenton later changed his name to Alvin Stardust.
