The winner of the marathon was Simon Gregory, number 172, who is a member of the Kestrels Running Club, Killamarsh, Sheffield. Dave completed the race in 3hrs 3 minutes and is a premier runner, often finishing in the top five. He is pictured left with the Deputy Mayor who presented him with a medal.
The first woman to reach the finishing line was Alexandra Hetherington, pictured right.
Second man home was Dave Tilley of Boston who clocked in at 3hours 8mins, and in third place was Daniel Crofts of Donnington on Bain near Louth who came in at 3hrs 18mins. In fourth place, Mark Sands of Boston completed the marathon in 3hrs 30mins.
Commentators for the Seabank Marathon were Pilgrim Hospital Radio presenters, Simon Robinson (left in our picture) and Jonathon Coupland who kept the audience informed:
The annual Seabank Marathon is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research and this year (2008) 516 runners participated, which is an increase on last year’s number of entrants. The most number of entrants recorded is 968. No fewer than 10,000 paper cups were used and discarded by the atheletes along the route, and picked up by eighty volunteers.
