Summer Sea Safety Day
Location: Skegness
Event: Summer sea safety day - biggest event ever in UK focusing on sea safety.
Date: June 25, 2008 (10am until 4pm)

Each year the lifeboat and lifeguards along the Lincolnshire coast are busy with holidaymakers and local people who venture into the sea on inflatables without being fully aware of the implications.
In the past BBC Local news and national news have run stories on people being rescued from the sea and the incident that stands out in many people’s minds is the tragic death of two holidaymakers back in 2004 in the sea in Mablethorpe.
As part of an awareness campaign into sea safety, the biggest sea safety event of its kind in the Uk (and possibly the world) has been organised by the District Council for Skegness on June 25, 2008.
Over 2000 students from schools across the district will be invited to the special and important event taking place on the Skegness seafront.
Beach games and water rescues demonstrations will take place throughout the day including the beach lifeguards and costal rescues services - the public can also attend this.
In addition, there will be lifeguard training sessions and Tower Esplanade, the road that leads to the sea, will be full of local and regional beach safety organisations putting on displays of their skills and the work they do.
This event is just one strand of our beach safety campaign and we are in regular contact with schools across the East Midlands to try and get our sea safety message across to all who visit the coast.
