MACHINERY FOR LACE FIRM
Skegness venture

THOUSANDS of pounds worth of machinery arrived at Skegness yesterday afternoon for the opening of the plant which is to be set up here by Stiebel and Co., of Nottingham, manufacturers of curtains and furnishing fabrics.
The firm have acquired premises off Drummond Road, Skegness, which will be known as Nesco Mills, Seacroft.

TEN MACHINES
Two machines were delivered yesterday and will be worked by local people recruited here and trained at the Company’s Nottingham headquarters. Five more will be installed by the end of June and a total of up to 10 is envisaged.

The machines, which are among the most modern in the world, and are 10 feet wide, can produce 90 yards of curtain net in an eight hour shift. The net to be produced in Skegness is of a unique design and much of it will be for export.

HOPE TO EXPAND
It is understood that the move is being made because of difficulty in obtaining suitable labour in the Nottingham area, and that Skegness has been chosen not only for present needs, but also for the future when it is hoped to expand production capacity.
Stiebel and Co. also have a factory in Scotland. The Managing Director is Mr. J. D. Spurway, of Shardeloes Road, Skegness.
