Rebuilding Starts after Skegness Fire

Scaffolding is in place ready for imminent repair work, due to start on the the Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Skegness, after it was severely damaged in the Skegness Fire last August.

Club Secretary, Fred Hoyles gave us the ‘thumbs-up’ sign from the balcony of the Ex-Serviceman’s, telling us that workmen will begin repairs on the gable and the roof next week. “We have managed to clear the rubble away from the side of the club so that the scaffolding could be erected”, he said. “The badly damaged gable end and roof need repairing first to stop water getting in the building, then we can make plans to have essential work like rewiring the electrics and fitting a fire alarm system and CCTV done”.

Staff of the Ex-Servicemen’s Club said they were tired of waiting for the adjoining site, the former Parade Complex, to be cleared. They wanted to get started on rebuilding the club which has 1,200 members, 300 of which live in Skegness. Members are presently gathering at the Skegness Liberal Club who, Mr Hoyles says, has been very supportive.
