DEATH OF MR J. T. PHILLIPS (Skegness Waterworks Manager)

We regret to announce the death of Mr. John Trelasse Phillips, who for upwards of twenty year, has been the manager of the waterworks at Skegness for the Earl of Scarbrough.

The sad event took place somewhat suddenly and unexpectedly at an early hour on Wednesday morning last.

About two mouths since the deceased had rather a severe attack of illness, but had sufficiently recovered from that as to be able to attend to his duties, and was about as usual even as late as Monday last. Soon after this he was again taken ill, and this attack was of so severe a nature that the advice of two medical gentlemen was obtained.

From the first very little hope was entertained of his recovery, and he succumbed about twenty-four hours afterwards.

He was conscious to the last, and fully realized the seriousness of his condition. Shortly before he breathed his last he bade his wife and children an affectionate farewell. The scene was a very affecting one.

The deceased, who was 56 years of age, was highly respected by all classes of the community.

He leaves a widow and family to mourn their loss. He was a member of the Lumley Lodge of Freemasons, and this body at their monthly lodge on Wednesday evening last passed a vote to of condolence to the widow and relatives of the deceased, who was a native of Cornwall.

The funeral will take place this day (Friday) at 2 30 o’clock at St Clement’s Churchyard, and will be attended by the Freemasons.
