As briefly recorded in our last issue, the work of laying the underground cables in connection with a public supply of electricity for Skegness is now actively proceeding.
The upper section of our photograph shows a few of the huge drums on which the cables are wound ‘dumped’ on the North Parade in readiness for removal to the various areas in the town as required.
The lower section shows the laying of a section of cable on the south side of Lumley Road, the work being carried out with the minimum of inconvenience to shopkeepers and others concerned. Alternate paving slabs are removed and when the trench is ready the cable is rapidly inserted by a line of workmen standing in the excavation and the pavement reinstalled.

The Middle Link in Boston and Skegness Electricity Supply - Site of Transformer Station Midville

The photograph shows an important phase of the work in connection with a public supply of electricity for Skegness, this being the commencement of the transformer station at Mid ville, which may be described as the ‘half-way house’ between the source of supply from the National Grid at Boston, and the coast resort.
The current is being carried on overhead poles along the whole line of route to Skegness, and from the sub-transformer station at that place the cables will be laid underground.
The photograph below was taken by Hudson’s Commercial Photo Service, Lumley Road Skegness.
