The news story reveals that it was ’shoe-shine week in Skegness and local man Henry Wilkinson submitted a photo dated 1924 of the famous music hall comedian, George Robey. George, who was starring at the Arcadia Theatre at the time, is shown in the picture having his shoes shone by resident shoe shine man, Ted Marriot.
“In a week when Scouts are shining shoes in Lumley Road for their annual Job Week, we show a real professional - Ted Marriot - at work on the streets of Skegness in 1924.
The owner of the shoes is George Robey, the famous Music Hall comedian, who was appearing at the Arcadia.”
