Carnival WILL Go On!
The show will go on for Skegness Carnival Week…
Graham Dovey, press officer for Skegness Carnival says:
“Despite all the rain and wet weather we have experienced over the summer so far Skegness Carnival Parade and Carnival week events will go ahead! Some of the fields we use are wet and soft so we are making alternate arrangements for events, which would be held on those areas, in case the ground is too soft. If (we will) get some dry weather in the next few weeks then because the ground in Skegness drains very well we will go ahead at all our planned venues. If we have to move we will tell you where we are and we will ensure one of our team is at the advertised site to re-direct you to where we are. So get the floats decorated and come and join us for a week of fun and games.
“The week starts on Sunday 12th August with the Carnival Parade. Floats need to be on the Wainfleet field at 1.0pm for judging. The parade will set off at 2.30 and work its way through the town to the seafront. So pick your spot and watch the bands and floats go by. Better still decorate a vehicle or trailer and enter the parade. Application forms are on our website, fill it in and send it to us by Friday 10th August. This years theme is “Fictional Characters” Batman, Superman, Darth Vader, the Jedi Knights, Bill and Ben, Magic Roundabout, just let your imagination go free.
“Throughout the week there is an Art show at St Mary’s Church at Winthorpe where many local talented artists have an exhibition and many of the paintings are for sale. So pick up a bargain and in a few years that original could be worth millions!
“On Monday 13th August we start on the seafront with pavement artists just north of the pier at 11.00 am. This is followed by the Sand Sculpture contest at 2.00pm on the central beach just down from the Lifeboat station. The evening continues with a Skateboarding and Inline skating competition at the Extreme sports centre on Sea View Road at 7.0pm
“Tuesday at 10.30am we have our popular walking treasure hunt starting from the Tourist Information Centre opposite the Embassy centre on Grand Parade. The afternoon brings the Baby Show at the bandstand in Tower Gardens starting at 2.0pm The evening finishes with a kite demonstration on the beach at Prince Edward Walk courtesy of the Kitefest organisers.
“Wednesday is the busy day of the week with the “999” gala day and show on the Pier field. Visit all our emergency services as well as the Royal Air Force who are bringing a number of exhibits including a mock up of a Tornado jet.
“Thursday we are back in Tower Gardens for the Tiny Tots, Miss Seaside and Super Heroes contest, finishing in the evening with a disco and fancy dress at the Suncastle pub on North Parade.
“Friday is again in Tower Gardens with the “Pet Show” (no ducks please) at 2.0pm a display a local dog obedience group and entertainment by Pogo the Clown.
“Come and join us at all our events, enter as many of the competitions as you want or just watch the mayhem from the sidelines, but whatever you decide to do come and enjoy yourself with us during Skegness Carnival week.”
