Police Training in Skegness
news story date 14th November 2006
The Lincolnshire Police held a role play training session at the Hildred’s Shopping Centre in Skegness today.
The Training Manager, Sergeant Brian Williams explained what was happening.
He told us that the trainee police constables were from Boston in Lincolnshire, but would eventually be working in Skegness. Holding the training session actually in Skegness would serve to accustom the trainees to the Skegness community.
The police trainees had completed the theoretical side of their law training in Boston and were now putting the theory to the test by playing out real life scenarios.
Serg Williams said that they had put out an appeal for members of the public to help with the role play. The role play “makes the students think on their feet”, Serg Williams said.
PC Ben Addlington, extreme left in the picture below, was the main trainer and was here today to assess the reactions and decisions made by the police students.
The photo below shows PC Addlington debriefing the trainees after an exercise.

PC Becky Fowler in the next photo was dealing with an alleged shoplifter, played by Elizabeth Emberton (left). Mr Gorden Long (centre) played a store detective.

In the next three photos, student PC Darren Critten was dealing with a missing person report. The lady in a ‘distressed condition’ being interviewed was played by Liz Naughton.
She was really giving PC Critten a hard time with her ‘confusion’!
PC Addlington is closely watching how the student deals with the situation and is carefully making notes.

It must have been quite difficult for the police students, with members of the public looking on, not to mention the press photographers! But that’s real life!
But we wish them good luck with their career training and look forward to seeing them
‘on the beat’ in Skegness!
