Green light for Leisure Centre
LINCOLSNHIRE County Council has today rejected an application to register Louth’s Wood Lane playing fields as a Village Green, concluding that the evidence in support of the application was ‘limited’ and ‘vague’.
East Lindsey District Council is delighted that Lincolnshire County Council has made this decision based on the weight of evidence provided by the District Council to allow development of a major new community facility, As a result, construction can now begin on the long-awaited Community Leisure Centre that will be built on the site.
The Community Leisure Centre is the centrepiece of more than £13million pounds investment in East Lindsey that will provide facilities for sport and community use. The project is a key element in promoting a more active and healthy lifestyle for residents of all ages. The leisure project has had widespread local support as the recent reaction of the application has shown and reinforced.
The Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, explains: “We have always maintained the position that this project will go-ahead and that it represents the collective interest of the widest possible section of our community. We’re thrilled that we can finally get on with the project - it makes the past two years of effort worthwhile.” She continued: “We are now on course to deliver a first-class facility that will benefit the community for years to come. There will also be an opportunity for individuals and community groups to actively participate in the process of deciding what activities we undertake at the centre and how they reflect the needs of the community. Preparation and survey work will begin on the site immediately while major construction activity will begin in the Autumn. The Centre will be open in Easter 2009. To provide full transparency to the project regular bulletins on the progress will be provided by eh Council.
