Wartime spirit rekindled in Skegness when volunteers rally to fill sandbags

IN the last few hours there have been very few requests for sandbags in the Louth. The teams in Louth have been stood down, however filled sandbags are still available at the Cattlemarket Car Park.
Teams will continue to work with the residents in Horncastle to ensure they have the sandbags they need to protect their homes . Wainfleet is the main area for concern and the District Council has teams on scene now attempting to re-enforce the river bank on Vicarage Lane.
East Lindsey District Council’s Manby Customer Service Centre will be open tomorrow between 9am and 5pm. The District Council is accepting requests for flood damage waste and will have teams working tomorrow (Sunday) and into next week..
EAST Lindsey District Council’s teams continue to work closely with residents this lunchtime providing sandbags and hands-on assistance. Officers have been deployed to the rural villages to speak to residents and make sure everyone is ok in areas potentially affected by the severe weather. If vulnerable residents are in urgent need of assistance they should contact the Council on 08446 601111.
Teams are still manning the sandbag stations at Louth Cattlemarket; Horncastle Town Hall and Skegness’ Festival Pavilion Car park. Filled sandbags can be collected from Mablethorpe’s Victoria Rd Depot.
In excess of 15 tonnes of sand have been used and more sand is being delivered as and when required. 2000 sandbags have been used in Louth since last night.
East Lindsey District Council has been given another £50,000, on top of the £200,000 announced last week, to support those affected by the flood.

FLOOD sirens in Louth have again sounded this morning, with water levels still rising. Properties in Broadbank, James St and Ramsgate were the worst affected areas of the town last night and Louth Town Hall was set up as the evacuation centre.
No-one used the Centre so it was stood down at 2am this morning. The Emergency Planning Centre has in the last few moments requested the Centre be re-opened as a result of the rising water to act as an advice centre for residents.
The Council has responded to almost 200 calls for sandbags so far and in the coming hours will work closely with residents to help them protect their homes.
More teams will be on the ground shortly and visiting some of the village to ensure vulnerable residents are safe and have the assistance they require.

Emergency response from East Lindsey District Council
EAST Lindsey District Council had teams on the ground all night helping residents protect their homes, as the District was again struck by severe flooding over night.
The areas worst affected appear to be Louth and Horncastle will flash flooding in some villages. The Council received over 160 calls last night and into the early hours of this morning.
The Council’s Customer Service Centre is still open today and if required it will be open for the remainder of the weekend. The number is 08446 601111.

Update 20th July 2007
East Lindsey District Council prepared should heavy rainfall hit
WITH the potential for heavy rainfall this weekend (tonight and tomorrow mainly the times of concern at present), East Lindsey District Council has put precautionary measures in place and delivered sand and sandbags to various locations across the District. These being Horncastle Town Hall Car park, Skegness Festival Pavilion Car park, Louth Cattlemarket car park and the Victoria Road Depot in Mablethorpe. Teams will man these locations until 10pm this evening (Friday) and the situation will be closely monitored over the weekend with teams ready to be deployed to help residents if the weather deteriorates. These sandbags are available to people whose properties are threatened with flooding.
The Council’s Customer Service Centre telephone number (08446 601111) will be manned until 10pm this evening so the Council can respond to requests for urgent assistances from vulnerable residents, whose properties are in danger of flooding.
The Council will continue to monitor the situation closely over the weekend and respond accordingly.

26 tonnes of flood damaged waste collected over the weekend
The Council received three emergency requests for sandbags on Sunday mainly in the Louth area. A number of sandbags were given to members of the public in Louth and Horncastle
From today Monday 2nd July:
The clear-up operation has been underway for almost a week now.
The street scene in Louth and Horncastle has been returned to normal and Cleansing Teams continue to work in the villages.
The Council has a number of pieces of equipment available, including dehumidifiers and pumps, to help residents dry their homes and businesses. Obviously this is free of charge and will we deliver and collect.

A special waste collection took place in Louth, Horncastle and the surrounding villages on Saturday (June 30, 2007). Over 26 tonnes of waste was collected in total.
If you have flood-damaged waste, contact the Council’s Customer Service Centre and a team will collect the waste free of charge.

Sand and sandbags are still available at Horncastle Town Hall car park, Louth Cattle market car park (London Road entrance), Tetney Village Hall, Skegness’ Festival Pavilion car park and Manby headquarters.
Filled sandbags are also available from the Council’s Burgh Road depot on the A158 just outside Skegness and Victoria Road depot in Mablethorpe.
At present (9am, Sunday July 1) there are no flood warnings in place in East Lindsey. However, teams remain on standby to help residents and they will respond to requests for emergency assistance.
It is reported that water levels have risen slightly overnight in Horncastle, Wainfleet, Kirkby on Bain and Benniworth.
East Lindsey District Council’s Customer Service Centres in Louth and Horncastle are both open today (Sunday) between 9am and 5pm. The Council’s main Manby switchboard is also being staffed during this period. Anyone requiring assistance should contact the Council on 08446 601111.

With further rain predicted in the next 24 hours, East Lindsey District Council’s teams remain on standby to help residents. The latest weather forecasts suggest that there could be up to an inch of rain overnight, Saturday into Sunday.
Sand has been delivered to Horncastle Town Hall car park, Louth Cattle market car park (London Road entrance), Tetney Village Hall, Skegness’ Festival Pavilion car park and Manby headquarters. East Lindsey District Council has teams at each of these locations (except Manby) filling sandbags for members of the public. At present there is a steady flow of people collecting them.
Filled sandbags are also available from the Council’s Burgh Road depot on the A158 just outside Skegness and Victoria Road depot in Mablethorpe.

The clear up continues, but more rainfall imminent predicts Met Office
Yesterday (Thursday, June 28)
The Council’s 19 dehumidifiers arrived at 8am and teams were busy distributing these to residents. Residents wanting to borrow one should contact the Council’s Customer Service Team on 08446 601111. We drop them off, set them going and then collect them again.
Cleansing Teams worked in Horncastle (near the Tesco Store) and in Louth (Broadbank car park).
The street scene in Louth is more or less back to normal and efforts are now been focused elsewhere in the District.
The Cleansing Teams were working in Wainfleet in the afternoon, assisting those living in Vicarage Lane.
Teams delivered sandbags to homes in Tathwell at 9.30pm, following reports of flooding.
Today (Friday, June 29, 2007)
Mechanical sweepers are operating in the villages affected by flooding.
Teams are busy building up the filled sandbag reserves ahead of potential heavy rainfall this weekend.
We continue to monitor the weather forecast carefully.
In the coming days (depending on weekend weather)
Cleansing Teams will move into the other villages affected by the flooding and begin clearing the streets.

Emergency Plan activated as severe flooding hits East Lindsey
update Tuesday 27th June
Yesterday
East Lindsey District Council’s Cleansing Teams began to tackle Louth and Horncastle at 6am.
Teams were liaising with residents and distributing leaflets on flood recovery and making people aware of the assistance that the Council will provide.
We have purchased a number of dehumidifiers that residents can use to speed up the process of drying out their homes. These can be requested by calling the Council on 08446 601111 and we’ll deliver.
Today
More sandbags have been delivered to residents in North Cotes.
A Team will be in Wainfleet in the next few hours to give flood advice and leaflets about recovering from a flood to the residents involved in yesterday’s evacuation.
East Lindsey District Council’s Cleansing Teams are continuing to work in Louth and Horncastle this morning.
A mechanical road sweeper is currently sweeping the streets in Horncastle and a mechanical sweeper will be heading to Louth shortly.
This morning we have a team in Horncastle to help remove carpets from a property.
In the coming days
Cleansing Teams will move into the villages affected by the flooding and begin clearing the streets and liaising with residents to find out whether they need any assistance.

EAST Lindsey District Council has activated its Emergency Plan following substantial flooding across the District.
As a result, Teams will remain on standby to work with the Emergency Services throughout the night.
In the coming days, the Council will begin the clear up operation and help residents to empty their properties.
In the meantime, sandbags are available from the Council’s Customer Service Centres. However, the bags are only being given to those people whose properties are on the brink of flooding.
Residents are warned that manhole covers are often washed away in severe flooding, so residents are urged not to go into the water.
Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, reassured residents that the Council is doing everything it can to help.
The District Council’s Out of Hours Customer Service number will be in operation throughout the night on 01507 601111, pressing 0 for Out of Hours service and the Council’s website is being updated on a regular basis.
Areas and properties in Lincolnshire are flooded after last nights heavy down pour of rain, and more rain is forecast for today.
East Lindsey District Council are asking residents to contact their local customer service centre on 08446 601111 to check for sandbag availability. At the moment all Customer Service Centres do have supplies and more are being delivered shortly.
ELDC has opened up its Town Halls in Horncastle and Louth for residents affected by the flood. Tea and coffee making facilities are there, but I would encourage people to grab a jar of coffee as they leave their home.

East Lindsey District Council has delivered sand to the Cattlemarket Car Park in Louth and the Town Hall Car Park in Horncastle so sand bags can be filled. Sandbags are available at both locations.
Update:
East Lindsey District Council’s Burgh Road depot is now closed to the public for sandbags. Sandbags are available from the Council’s Customer Service Centre in Skegness and sand has been placed on the festival pavilion car park in the town so the bags can be filled.
The fire service was called to a property in Croft early this morning after drains had burst and flooded the ground floor. A neighbour said that the stench was sickening.
Skegness Cricket Ground pictured below, is awash, ducks from the nearby Tower Gardens have taken up temporary residency on the ‘field’.
