£120,000 for Councillors to support community projects
DISTRICT Councillors in East Lindsey have been given £2,000 each to allocate to projects in their local community.
Each of the 60 Councillors will have to decide which projects in their Ward get a share of the funding. Councillors will be expected to meet with members of the community to discuss potential projects and make a decision whether or not to support them. The Councillors will then be responsible for ensuring the projects they are supporting meet set criteria and for taking the funding bid through the application process.
Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, said the additional funding would enable the Council to support those projects closest to the heart of the local community.
The extra £120,000 of community funding being made available through this new Scheme for the 07/08 financial year, is in addition to the £260,000 put aside through the Council’s Community Grants Scheme.
Clubs and community groups are encouraged to apply for a share of the £260,000 and the scheme has recently had a makeover to make the application process easy.
Councillor Stephenson said the Authority was keen to work with community groups to help them achieve their aspirations.
